About Our laboratory
Our laboratory embarked on a new chapter on April 1, 2026, with the appointment of Dr. Noritaka Yamaguchi as Professor. At the same time, we were renamed the Department of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology to reflect our role as the university’s leading laboratory in basic pharmacology. Building on the foundation of molecular pharmacology established by our predecessor, the Department of Pharmacodynamics (led by Dr. Shigeru Hishinuma, Professor Emeritus of this university), our laboratory members are united in our commitment to advancing research and education.
Our laboratory’s logo symbolizes a network. Biological phenomena are skillfully regulated by various networks between molecules, cells, and tissues. Disruption of these networks leads to diseases, and therapeutic effects are achieved by repairing such disruptions through drug interactions. Our laboratory aims to unravel the various networks that skillfully control biological phenomena and develop new therapeutic drugs that repair these disruptions by elucidating the disruptions in networks that lead to diseases.
In advancing research projects, interpersonal networks are also crucial. We value not only the networks within our laboratory but also those with external partners. Interpersonal networks can lead to significant achievements that would be impossible for any single individual to accomplish alone. In fact, this principle extends beyond research. We hope that through the various activities in our laboratory—such as research and events—our students will not only discover the fascination of the networks that govern biological phenomena but also learn the importance of the networks that enrich their lives.
